Interesting Russian article on rare variants

Post by Brian »

A kind local collector sent me the link to this article.
It appears to have a lot of info on rare variations of the Russian bayos.
I have a part Google translation, but maybe someone here with time can format the article into a pdf with pics, and we can work on a translation?
Take a look. Would LOVE to know what they are saying about the pebble handle versions.

Ok..I converted the Russian article to a pdf, and will upload it soon it in case we lose the online article.
It translates very well with Google translate. Check it out here:

I must say, this is one of the most interesting new articles and info to come out in the past few years. It is all about the plastic! Some awesome info here.

Yes, lots of great technical information there. It explains quite a bit about the evolution of the Russian AKM 6X4 Type 5 bayonet and scabbard. I particularly liked seeing the blueprints of the scabbard molding press. Also the info about the different colorations and how they were achieved. Enjoyed learning about the reverse exchange of technology and equipment for molding plastics from the German Democratic Republic, (GDR = DDR). Interesting now to compare the late DDR 6X4 bayonet hilts and scabbards to the Russian 6X4 and 6X5 versions. Mike
